Atlanta United FC as Champions
Atlanta, Georgia, a city that hoisted only one title in the multi-decade history of their sports franchises, which belonged to the 1995 Braves in six games. Now, the city has added another proud title from one of the MLS’ hottest franchises. Atlanta United FC defeated the Portland Timbers by a score of 2-0 in front of a record 70,000+ fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a state-of-the-art stadium with an all-around scoreboard and a retractable roof. One of the goal scorers from this great contest was a man named Josef Martinez, whose goal in the 38th minute was only his fourth goal of the postseason. He has also been one of the hottest names in the league with over thirty goals during the regular season to top the four he scored in the playoffs. This was only a team in their second season after joining the league in 2017 as an expansion club along with Minnesota United FC. The squad won the cup in the second quickest amount of time only behind the Chicago Fire, who won their first (and currently only) title in their first season back in 1998.
