Wilton High School’s Knit and Crochet Club Holds Spring Market on the Spring Equinox

On March 20, 2025, the Knit and Crochet Club held its Spring Market in the Wilton High School cafeteria. The market featured spring-themed crochet items and baked goods. For crochet plushies and keychains, prices ranged from $5-20, while the baked goods sold for $1-2.

Preparing for these markets involves a lot of work. First, the club plans to host a market one to two months in advance. After they decide on the date, they begin to crochet items to sell at the market.

Grace Gordon, the club’s vice president and a WHS junior, states that she really enjoys organizing these markets. “It’s nice to know that we are supporting not only big organizations like The Trevor Project and ACLU but also local organizations such as Catalyst CT,” she says. “And it’s nice to see everyone around the school with our keychains.”

Saanvi Chowdhary, a member of the club and a freshman at WHS, explains that the markets “help us show our teamwork both as a club and as a school.”

“Everyone comes together as a club to sell the creations,” she says. “These markets are a great way for everyone to learn new things, and share the art of crocheting with others, while also sparking interest within others about crochet.”

Abbie Fang, the club’s president and a WHS junior, claims that this was their “biggest market so far.” She explains that “in this market, we had around 120 crochet items, which is more than double what we normally bring.”

“During the last market, we made around $600,” she explains. “This time, we made a little over $800.”

The Knit and Crochet Club plans to donate the income to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Gordon explains that they chose the ACLU because “the organization is dedicated to preserving constitutional rights in the U.S., and we are currently living in a time where the rights of many are under threat.”

The club is also planning to bring the leftover inventory to the Green Team’s Spring Sale. The joint event hosted by the Green Team’s Thrift Store, the Culinary Club, and the Crochet Club will take place on Saturday, April 12 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Zellner Gallery.

The Knit and Crochet Club meets on Tuesdays after school from 3-4. If you are interested in joining, stop by room 318BC or contact one of the club’s advisors.
